Louis Smith Vickers, age 99, of Jasper, FL. passed away Friday evening, June 23, 2017 at his home in Jasper following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL.
The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Louis Smith Vickers was a native of Hamilton County, FL. born in the Baker's Mill settlement of Jasper to the late Drew and Minnie Smith Vickers. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Navy. He and his wife, the late Miriam Syms Vickers, made their home in Jacksonville, FL. where he was a rural route mail carrier for the United States Postal Service until he retired. Mr. Vickers was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Jacksonville before moving to Jasper and becoming an active member of Jasper First Baptist Church. Louis was preceded in death by his wife Miriam in 1992. He was also preceded by his only daughter, Marion Williamson, son-in-law, George Williamson, his parents, Drew and Minnie Vickers and his brothers, Henry, Joe, Drew, and sister, Maebelle.
Survivors include his two granddaughters: Jennie Pickett and her husband, Daniel, and Mandy Cobb and her husband, Joe; great grandchildren, Charlie and Lillian Pickett and Sarah Faucett, Truett and Mary Thomas Cobb.
