Vernice Lucille Smith, age 89, of Jasper, FL. passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on Saturday, October 12, 2019. She was better known to us as Lucille, wife of Lonnie.

Lucille was born on January 21, 1930 to the late Jim and Ottie Harrell Stone. She met and married the love of her life, Lonnie Smith and the two were married for 60 years until his death in November of 2007. They lived for a brief time in Suwannee County before returning to Hamilton County in 1957. Hamilton County was home and she longed to live here the rest of her days. She loved gardening and growing flowers. Lucille had the magic touch and could grow most anything. She loved being outdoors and spent her last day in her yard raking leaves. She enjoyed baking and is fondly remembered for her delicious brownies. Lucille was a member of Divonia Baptist Church and one could not over-use the word "dedicated" when describing her membership and work in the church. After Lonnie's death, it became her second home. If the church doors were open, she was there. Lucille was an avid reader and studied her Bible daily.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Patricia Smith of Jasper; two grandchildren, Samuel D. Smith (Kelly) and Kimberly Smith Bunting (Jim); five great grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel and Logan Bunting and Noah and Kaylee Smith.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Divonia Baptist Church 7563 129 Hwy South, in Jasper, FL. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
