Obituary

Lurlene Pridgen Johnson, age 102, of Jasper, FL. passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper following a lengthy illness.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL.

Lurlene was born December 11, 1911 in Douglas, Georgia to the late James and Annie Jefferson Pridgen. She moved with her family to Madison, Florida in 1929. Lurlene was a graduate of Madison County High School and Messer Business College. She was employed with the Dept. of Public Welfare in Madison for two years before transferring to Hamilton County in 1937. She remained with the agency until her retirement in 1965. Lurlene married Myron David Johnson in 1939. Myron preceded her in death in September of 1984. She was a member of Jasper United Methodist Church for over fifty years where she taught Sunday school. Lurlene was a member of the Board of Trustees, Past President of the Wesleyan Guild and later a member of United Methodist Women. Mrs. Johnson was a Past President of Foreign Wars, Past President and member of the Jasper Woman's Club, past member of Jasper Garden Club, member of Friends of the Mansion in Madison, FL. and lifetime honorary member of Florida Sheriff's Association, Charter member of the Pink Ladies of Hamilton County Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
