Margaret Pearl Hughes
May 29, 1932 – November 25, 2025

Margaret Pearl Hughes, age 93, died peacefully in Pensacola, Florida, on November 25, 2025.

She was born and raised in Hamilton County to J.P. and K.T. Yates. Margaret worked for many years as a nursing assistant for Dr. Mickler and Dr. Klink. She later married the love of her life, Richard Kenneth Hughes, with whom she shared 50 wonderful years. Together they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and deep family bonds.

Margaret had a deep love for the Bible and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday school for many years and sung in the church choir. She loved watching Braves baseball games and was a huge Braves fan. She also enjoyed relaxing by listening to the old gospel hymns and playing games on her tablet, a simple pastime that brought her joy in her later years.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, J.P. and K.T. Yates; her beloved husband, Richard Kenneth Hughes; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Taylor; and her siblings Robert M. Yates, Catherine Cromer, Bettye Adcock, Ruby Fouraker, Alton Yates, George Yates and Maurice Yates

She is survived by her son-in-law, Rick Taylor; her niece and devoted caretaker, Terri Best; dear friends Donna and Tina Elliot; her adoptive daughter, Sheila Gritz-Swift; her special niece, Linda Cason; and many cousins and extended family, including members of the Taylor family, Adcock family, Cromer family, Fouraker family, Yates family, and the Hughes family.

Services will be held at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home on December 2, 2025. Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
