Obituary
Margaret Scaff Tuten, age 101, of Jasper, FL. passed away at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, FL. following a long and blessed life. Her last hours were spent with her son, her daughter and her granddaughter.
Margaret was a native of Jennings, FL. She was born on September 24, 1914, the second of ten children born to the late James Albert Scaff and Nora Ella Glenn Scaff. She later married William Robert Tuten, Jr. and together they owned and operated Tuten's Grocery Store in Jennings. Many will remember her fondly from her years in the classroom as a substitute teacher. She loved children and enjoyed feeling like she had a small part in shaping the young lives of her students. Some ten years after the death of her husband in 1975, Margaret moved to Jasper. She had been a longtime member at Jennings First Baptist Church but after giving it much thought Margaret decided it would be more practical to move her membership to Jasper First Baptist Church. For the rest of her days she was a faithful Sunday School teacher, prayer warrior and mentor at her church in Jasper. At the age of 70 Margaret began a nursing home ministry and went weekly to hold Bible Study with the residents. At the age of 95 she was recognized for her 25 years of dedicated service to the Suwannee Valley Nursing Center ministry.
Margaret was preceded by her husband, William Robert Tuten, Jr., son-in-law, George Vaughn and a grandson, Bobby Vaughn.
Survivors include her son, William Robert Tuten, III and his wife, Giselinde of Alexandria, VA.; her daughter, Diann Tuten Vaughn of New Braunfels, Texas; one sister, Nora Evelyn Caldwell of Gainesville, FL.; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one on the way. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
