Obituary

Marvin Carlton "Buddy" Selph, 79, of Jasper, FL, went to Fish the Waters of Heaven on November 4th, 2025.

Buddy was born March 18th, 1946, in Jasper, Fl the son of Willard Marvin Selph and Dollie Smith Selph.  Buddy was second eldest of five siblings, sharing many loving and unforgettable memories growing with one another throughout the years.  Their adventures were grand; a few of them painful, most of them full of joy; and all too many to share.

Buddy graduated from Hamilton County High School in 1964 and went to work cropping and marketing tobacco for the P. Lorillard Tobacco Company.  He traveled between home (Jasper) and North Carolina during this time and ultimately returned home for good.  Buddy also served in the Army Rerserves for 6 years.

Marvin worked and retired as a Locomotive Engineer at the Hamilton County phosphate mine for over 28 years (Now Nutrien).  During this time, he marked many achievements for dependable and safe work. He also worked as a forest ranger and enjoyed these memories.  Marvin farmed and was skilled in agriculture. In retirement, Marvin sold homes and met many new friends along the way.  Uncle Buddy never met a stranger, and he loved all that he could.

Marvin enjoyed many hobbies and talents. He loved music and was highly skilled with harmonica.  He was an outdoorsman who loved wildlife, knew the plants and the animals, their nature and their environments.  Marvin especially loved to Fish!  Fishing was a natural gift for Marvin, one that he was able to enjoy throughout his life.  His fishing adventures even led him to meet many famous people, from politicians to musicians as he gave bass fishing tours.  All who knew him were blessed with memories and meals from Buddy's passion for catching a fish and his love of being with family and friends.

Remaining to cherish Marvin C. Selph's memory are children Marvin LaShane Selph of Lake City, FL,  William Brett Selph(Nikki) of Horseshoe Beach, FL, Carlton Garrett Selph(Jessica) of Jasper, FL, and Cheston Henry Selph(Christina) of Valdosta, GA; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, brother Don Selph(Cathy) of Franklin, AR, sisters Elain Perez and Cheryl Clayton both of Jasper, FL.
