Mary K. Herndon passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Nashville, Georgia, to Bernice and Pauline Simmons, Mary later made her home in Clyattville, Georgia, where she married the love of her life, Ola Junior Herndon. The two shared 61 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2024. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and love.

Mary spent many years teaching at Clyattville Elementary School and was a faithful member of Clyattville Baptist Church. She loved flowers, her dog Patches, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary always put her family first and cared deeply for those she loved.

She is survived by her sons, Randy Herndon and Ronnie Herndon, both of Valdosta, Georgia; her daughter, Pam Brumfield (Buddy Harris) of Valdosta, Georgia; her in-laws; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Pauline Simmons; her beloved husband, Ola Junior Herndon; and her sister, Elizabeth Gaskins of Statenville, Georgia.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home. Mary will then be laid to rest at Herndon Cemetery.

Mary’s family will forever treasure the love, wisdom, and warmth she shared so freely with everyone who knew her.
