Mildred Elizabeth Shepherd,of Jasper, FL. passed away on June 5, 2008 at the age of 102. She was born November 8, 1905 in Tattnall County, Georgia. She was the only child of the late Colon Odd Shepherd and Mattie Lee Morris Shepherd. Her early life was spent in Georgia, graduating from Reidsville High School. She attended LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA and graduated from Florida State University in 1929 and the University of Florida in 1949. Mildred's first teaching assignment was in Jasper. She then taught third grade in Crescent City for twenty one years and in Clearwater for twenty years before retiring and moving to Jasper after the death of her mother to help look after her father. While teaching she was very active in several organizations, Business and Professional Women, Childhood Education, International Reading Association, and American University Women.
When she returned to Jasper she was very active in the United Methodist Women and the Jasper Women's Club.
There are no immediate survivors, only cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Jasper. Interment was Thursday, June 12, 2008 in the Reidsville, Georgia family plot next to her parents.
