Mitchell "Mitch" D. McMillan, age 63, of Jasper, FL. passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, FL. following a brief illness.
Mitch worked most of his adult life as a cosmetologist. Many will remember him from the many years he worked at the Carousel in Live Oak. Everyone that knew Mitch, knew at least three things for certain, #1 he was a Gator fan through and through, #2 he was a comedian with a blazing sense of humor and #3 he was a generous giver, one who always thought of others needs first. Mitch never having married or had children of his own, saw the needs of two young boys and took them in to his home to raise and then when needed, he then took in those he considered "his grandchildren" and loved every minute he got with them to be "Papa Mitch". There were two other "Love's" in his life and in his comedic manner, he would suggest he didn't know which one he loved most, however, in order and without question he fiercely loved his mother with all of his heart and only slightly behind Ms. Hazel was Mitch's dog "Tanny".
Mitch was born in Lakeland, Georgia on May 1, 1954 to Richard and Hazel Royals McMillan. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Survivors include his beloved mother, Hazel Hampton of Jasper, FL.; one sister, Jo Ann Thompson and her husband Paul of Lyons, GA.; niece and nephews, Samantha Bennett, Tim Thompson, Mark Thompson and Shawn Thompson; his beloved boys, Charles Chitlin and Robert Chitlin and his grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
