Nona (Adams) Strickland Whitaker, age 93, of Tampa, FL. passed away Friday, March 5, 2010, in Lake City, FL. The Tampa native was a charter member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, was former President of the Bayshore Garden Club and a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. A former Hillsborough School Board employee, She finally retired for the second time at age 78. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nona Adams Strickland, a brother, Junius M. Strickland and her husband, Joseph H. Whitaker.

She is survived by two sons, J. Douglas Whitaker and his wife Trisha and Charles H. Whitaker and his wife Juanita; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8th at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church in Tampa. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
