Obituary

Nora Echemendia Lang, age 65, of White Springs, FL. passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Nora was born on July 28, 1950 in Havana Cuba to Pompilio and Maria Echemendia. She grew up in Delray Beach, FL. and moved to North Florida some 25 years ago. Nora graduated from Cardinal Newman High School. She earned her Bachelor's Degree at Barry College and her Master's Degree at Florida State University. Nora taught school in Suwannee County for several years and later transferred to East Side School in Columbia County where she primarily taught 4th grade for the remainder of her teaching career. She was a dedicated teacher and had a deep desire to provide the best education possible to each and every one of her students.

Following her retirement Nora was able to enjoy traveling and doing what she loved most which was photography. She traveled all over the country to nesting sites to photograph eagles. She was allowed the privilege of visiting "monitor sites" governed by FWC where she was allowed to photograph some pretty amazing events. Nora had a unique ability to capture that special moment of the eagle in flight, nesting or just bathing in the cool waters of an Alaskan stream. She didn't limit her photography to eagles. Nora could be found most any morning or late evening in her own back yard with camera in hand photographing a mourning dove, the cardinals and hummingbirds feasting on one of the many flowers she had planted for their pleasure. She loved gardening and had a wide variety of plants and flowers she dearly loved.

In addition to her passion for photography, Nora was dedicated to CSO/Citizen Support Organization of Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. She served as president of the CSO for a time and was committed to helping maintain and expand park programs while helping to preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the park.
Nora was of the Catholic faith. She loved and was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her aunt, Raquel O'Farrel of Hollywood, FL. and close friend, Gettys Braswell of Jasper, FL.; also surviving are her many friends who had the pleasure of sharing her life.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL. with Pastor Roger Hutto officiating. Several close friends had the honor of sharing special moments, poems and prayers.
