Obituary

Peyton Harry Wisenbaker, III, born August 26, 1953, in Valdosta, GA, peacefully departed this life on April 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Peyton was the beloved son of Peyton and Mary Helen Wisenbaker.

Peyton's journey began in Valdosta, GA where he attended Lowndes High School, graduating in 1971. He furthered his education at Valdosta State University. During his college years and for a short time after, Peyton worked alongside his father, Peyton Harry Wisenbaker, Jr, bailing hay, a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication.

After college, Peyton ventured into the construction industry, where he honed his skills and made a lasting impact. However, his true calling lay in public service. Peyton dedicated 37 years of his life as a mail carrier in the Jennings, FL area, serving over 500 homes with unwavering commitment.  His service extended beyond his professional duties; Peyton also served as the mayor of Jennings for two years, leaving a mark on the community's growth and development. Additionally, he was an EMT and volunteered as a first responder with the Jennings Fire Department, embodying the spirit of selflessness and compassion.

Outside of his professional and public endeavors, Peyton found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating and fishing adventures, finding excitement and peace while on the water. His love for animals, especially his cherished dog Buddy and his dear girl Angel, brought him great happiness and companionship. However, Peyton's greatest joy was found in his role as a devoted family man, treasuring every moment spent with his cherished wife of 25 years, Lana and his children and grandchildren. His love knew no bounds, and his family remained the cornerstone of his life.

Peyton leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lana Wisenbaker, his adoring children: Joshua Wisenbaker (Cheryl) of Nashville, GA, Adam Wisenbaker (Courtney) of Lake Park, GA, Sarah Stone of Lake Park, GA, and John Corbett (Jodie) of Colorado. He is also survived by his dear sister, Harriet Eager (Jimmy) of Franklin, NC, his sister, Joanne Chase of Indianapolis, IN, his sister-in-law, Erika Wisenbaker of Dalton, MA, his sister-in-law, Jean Fralick of Jasper, FL and his brother-in-law, John McGauley (Nancy) of Fort Wayne, IN. Peyton's memory will forever be cherished by his beloved grandchildren: Andrew Stone, Aubrey Wisenbaker, Maci Corbett, and Jaxson Wisenbaker.

Peyton is preceded in death by his parents, Peyton and Mary Helen Wisenbaker, and his brothers, Richard Wisenbaker and Thomas Wisenbaker.

A graveside service to honor Peyton's life will be held on Saturday, April 6th, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Haven Hospice, 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055, in Peyton's memory.
