IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Phyllis Jean
Boorom Marvin
December 15, 1936 – January 28, 2022
Phyllis Jean Boorom Marvin, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.
Phyllis was a New York native having been born in Interlaken, New York on December 15, 1936 to the late Addison and Elizabeth Ward Boorom. Later she met and married Robert B. Marvin. For many years they made their home in Plantation, Florida before moving to Jasper in 1971 with their two children. After raising her children to an age where they were independent Phyllis decided to enter the work force again. She was hired as a secretary for the Hamilton County School Board under the supervision of then Superintendent Mr. Jimmy Devane. Some many years later, when her husband was asked to become administrator of the Hamilton County Hospital, she went to work with him, helping him build the hospital into something the county could be proud of, which they accomplished. The two retired and she was content to work in her yard, tend to her many flowers and plants that she loved so very much, all while supporting the new family business RMAC and Oaks Mail Order Hobby Shop until it closed in 1999 following the death of her husband Dr. Robert Marvin. After a while she got the itch to be back in the work force and began to help Scott and Denice Hughes with their printing business but was soon offered the opportunity to join local attorney Jay Willingham and his wife Linda and remained there some 15 plus years. When she had to take leave due to an illness that required treatments, it was with the understanding that she would return as soon as she could. Sadly, the doctors were unable to help her keep that promise as hard as they tried. Phyllis took a very active role in her church. She was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Jasper and was always ready and willing to step up to render assistance when she was needed at the church. The church will share in her loss as will so very many in the community that shared a love and appreciation for the woman that Phyllis Marvin was.
Survivors include her daughter, Carrie Marvin Schuppe and her husband Craig of Cary, Illinois; her son, Robert W. Marvin of Jasper, FL.; her sister, Barbara Beardslee of Rochester, NY; her five grandchildren, Heather DeRocco, Joshua Schuppe, Ashley Marvin, Megan Schuppe and Alex Schuppe; and one great grandson, Easton DeRocco.
A Mass at St. Therese Catholic Church was held on Monday, February 7, 2022 with Father Anthony Basso presiding over the service. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL.
