Phyllis Wetherington Clarke, age 85, of Jasper, FL. passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper following an illness of some time.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Bright Pond Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Smith officiating.
Phyllis was born in Hamilton County, Florida on April 12, 1932 to the late Perman O. and Lorena Royals Wetherington. She was the oldest of nine children growing up in the Wetherington home and always helped with the younger ones as they were coming up. She knew hard times and learned a good work ethic by helping out at home. She worked for many, many years at Shoney's and the Holiday Inn in Valdosta, GA. waitressing. She was quite the character and if the truth was hard to hear, you might cover your ears because if Phyllis thought it, she was going to say it or you might be prepared to hold your sides because she could be a barrel of laughs too. Phyllis enjoyed fishing and caring for her animals. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Randy Smith and Mickle T. Smith. She was also predeceased by brothers, Sam, Odis and Michael Wetherington.
Survivors include her daughter Judy Spicer (Danny), Jasper, FL.; two brothers, Lloyd Wetherington (Sharon) and Curtis Wetherington (Linda); three sisters, Linda Erixton (Bobby), Lawana Ritzman and Laverne Lee (Donald); six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren and her beloved dog April. Also surviving is her best friend, Alice Jones.
