Obituary

Preston Harrell Tyree passed away on January 29, 2026, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, following a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and entered eternal rest in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Harrell was born at home on the family farm in Jasper, Florida, on October 21, 1942, to Jesse and Anne Ruth Tyre. A true Hamilton County farmer through and through, he carried a deep love for the land God entrusted to him. After graduating high school, Harrell proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years and served proudly aboard the USS Intrepid and the U.S. Naval Communication Station in Iceland.

Following his military service, Harrell married the love of his life, Patricia Shiver Tyree, on May 1, 1965. Their marriage was rooted in faith, love, and hard work. Together, they built a beautiful life, raised two children, and continued the farming tradition that Harrell held so close to his heart, always giving thanks for God’s provision.

Farming—especially peanuts—was Harrell’s passion and calling. He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in God’s creation through hunting, fishing, riding horses, and spending cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren on the family farm. He especially enjoyed taking his beloved Labradoodle, Milly, on truck rides to feed the fish or for a quick fast-food snack run. Harrell was a faithful and active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Jasper, Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Shiver Tyree; his children, Ashley Tyree (Regina) and Suzanne Reams (Austin); his grandchildren, Ashten Townsend (Aaron Townsend), Jessica Smith (Stephen Smith), Madison Tyree, Allie Reams, and Walker Reams; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Tyre and Anne Ruth Tyre, and his sister, Becky Jo Adams.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church in Jasper, Florida. Reverend Jimmy McCullers and Reverend Ashley Tyree will officiate. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 4:00 p.m.

Harrell’s life was a testament to his faith in God, his love of the land he farmed, and the family he cherished above all else.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child.
