Rance Dickson Phillips, age 78, of Jasper, FL. at his home, Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Rance was born in Camp Hill, Alabama on July 8, 1934 to the late Rev. Ralph Ray Phillips and his wife, Bertha Fincher Phillips. He was a longtime resident of Waycross, Georgia where he worked as service manager for several South Georgia car dealerships. His passion however, was getting his hands dirty working on his race cars. He was involved in late model dirt track racing for many years but his experience went way beyond dirt tracks in the racing industry. Rance was inducted into the National Late Model Association Hall of Fame and was about to receive another induction into the Hall of Fame in the Nascar division of racing. As a young man, Phillips proudly served in the United States Army. Rance was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Guynn and a sister, Billie Sue.
Survivors include one son, Randy Dickson Phillips and his wife Carla, of Floral City, FL; two daughters, Lynn Middleton and Nancy Phillips, both of Cleveland, GA.; one sister, Joann Smith, Walland, TN; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is his former wife, friend and the mother of his children, Delores Phillips, Bryson City, N.C.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8, 2012 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, FL. Interment followed at Camp Branch Church of God Cemetery in Waycross, GA.
