"Charlie" Carter
February 17, 1948 – April 14, 2022
Raymond "Charlie" Carter, age 74, a lifetime resident of Echols County, passed away on April 14, 2022 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on February 17, 1948 to the late Paul and Eva Williams Carter of Jasper and Horseshoe Beach, Florida.
Before his declining health, Charlie was an electrician at Occidental Chemical Company in White Springs, Florida. Charlie enjoyed being around people, attending church, deer hunting, reading the Bible and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed any team sport especially when his grandchildren were competing or playing. Charlie also liked to listen to gospel music and to watch old western movies.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou and two sons Lee Carter and friend Amy and Len Carter and his wife Shona both of Echols County, Georgia. He is also survived by five precious grandchildren; Isaac Carter (US Army), Natalee Carter and Gracin Carter, (step) Emilie Simpson and Brady Wilson. He is also survived by one brother, Paul Carter of Albany, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Brenda Carter of Jennings, Florida; and a brother-in-law, Lendy Rogers of Echols County as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, Randall Carter of Jennings, Florida and his sister, Patsy Rogers of Echols County.
Charlie was a member of Bethel Church of God where he served in several capacities including church council, Sunday school superintendent, and Sunday school teacher. In his healthier years, Charlie worked with the boy's group, Pioneers for Christ, and coached the church basketball team.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Bethel Church of God in Echols County with Rev. Daryl Pate, Rev. Tyler Carter and Rev. Phillip Adams officiating. Interment followed at Statenville Cemetery. Memorial contributions
