IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Kenneth"
Hughes
September 10, 1932 – March 20, 2023
Richard Kenneth Hughes, age 90, of Duncan, S.C. and former resident of Jasper, FL. passed away on March 20, 2023.
Kenneth was born on September 10, 1932 in Echols County and was the son of the late James Butler Hughes and Vashti Fouraker Hughes. Kenneth grew up with three brothers and a sister. They enjoyed all of the things that a big family did together back in the 30's, 40's but those days came with some awfully hard times as well. The boys pretty much had to leave school early to go to work to help make ends meet but it made them all grow up to be men that knew the value of hard work and have respect for others that did as well. Kenneth worked for the mines at Occidental Chemical Co. for 20 years before retiring. He enjoyed wetting a hook whether it was in a lake, pond or river, as long as there was a fish likely to come by and take his line. He was a faithful member of Sunrise Baptist Church as long as they lived in Jasper and were able to attend. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, James Butler Hughes, Jr., Elbert Hughes and Joe Hughes and their sister, Idoma Ware. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Marie Robinson and step-daughter Cindy Taylor.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Margaret Pearl Yates Hughes; his son-in-law, Rick Taylor; four sisters-in-law, Virginia Hughes, Jennie Lou Hughes, Terry Hughes, Bettye Adcock; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 27, 2023 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.
Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
