Robert William Gain, Sr., of Jennings, Florida passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 9, 2021, two days before his 83rd birthday.
Robert was born on August 11, 1938 in Camden, New Jersey. He married Arlene Miller and together they raised six children. He was preceded in death by his sons Steven and Charles. Fondly known as Nanny & PopPop, during their 65 years of marriage they were blessed with13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Robert was a sports enthusiast and was blessed to be directly involved in sports as a coach and an umpire and also played competitive fast pitch softball. He enjoyed many years of cheering on his family in sports ranging from car racing to football to dance.
He resided most of his adult life in Pinellas Park, Florida where he worked as a long- haul truck driver. When he retired, he and his wife Arlene moved to Jennings, Florida on a beautiful 80-acre lake where he could be found on a good day with a line in the water searching for the next big bass. Robert was all about family and family gatherings. Easter became a special time when all of the family would come home to be together.
Robert was always quite the character with his quick wit and jokes for the children and grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face coupled with an unmistakable belly laugh.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Miller Gain; his two sons, Robert William Gain, Jr. (Jackie) from Bella Vista, AR and Richard Gain (Debbie) from Valdosta, GA; his two daughters, Cherie Gain Cunningham (Charles) from Canton, GA and Carol Lynn Gain-Towe from Pinellas Park, FL; his two brothers, Tom Gain, Morristown, FL and David Mason from Longview, TX; his sister, Peggy Landes from St. Pete, FL; 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.
