IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Lamar
Linton
July 5, 1943 – June 19, 2024
On July 5th, 1943, in Marianna, Florida, Robert Lamar Linton was welcomed into this world by his father, Robert Franklin Linton, his mother, Betty Marie Foran Linton, and his sissy, Frankie Marie Linton Stewart.
When Lamar was little, he attended church with his grandparents, Jess and Josephine Long Foran, in the family mule and wagon. One time, Grandpa Jess knocked him out the back of the wagon, because his Uncle Charlie had put Lamar up to mischief. He knew better. He was not the victim.
Educated mainly in Jackson County schools, Lamar also attended Baker County High School, as well as graduated from Lake City Forest College. He was also an Army veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Branford, Florida.
All the ladies loved Lamar; whether it was his famous pound cakes at church, his great dance moves, because he could run really fast, or his witty charming ways. He said it best, "I'm as sweet as pie and mean as a snake"-Robert Lamar Linton.
He loved music and dancing…so much that when Fats Domino was detained in Baker County Jail for speeding on his way to a Jacksonville concert, Lamar and his friends then went and sat outside his jail cell and enjoyed a private concert by Fats Domino at the Baker County Jail.
Through music, dances, and dinners, Lamar met his wife, Linda Gayle Tanner Linton, in Baker County Florida. They were married, and had three children, Robert Christopher, Daleann, and Jerrette Lamar. They built a home and raised their children in Branford, Florida, where they resided most of their lives.
Lamar was very talented and had many skills. He loved math and monopoly was a favorite pastime. He designed many things that he should have patented; but others did. He was not a member of Mensa but was invited. Most of his life, he was a logger. This is how he met his best friend, James A. Smith. James was sixteen. Lamar and Linda had a successful logging business for the majority of their lives as well as a Limousin cattle business and a Napa Auto Parts store.
One of the family favorites was the yearly celebration of his birthday that was held at the Ichetucknee Springs South Park. Members of the Foran and Linton families would float down the river with Aunt Sandra doing the Tarzan yell, then enjoy fried fish with extra salt, all the fixins', and his mother, Betty Linton's pecan pie, and chocolate cake and Aunt Carolyn's jelly cake. In August, Lamar and family attended the Linton Reunion at the Linton homestead of Jake and Ida Linton in Marianna, Florida, which was later hosted and organized by Gail and Ron Sarvis in Panama City, Florida.
Family played a large role in Lamar's life. Family memories include leaving at 4am going motocross racing while listening to Motley Crue saying "Mick Marrs, Mick Marrs, Mick Marrs", going hydrosliding and skiing on the Suwannee River after church, Bass tournament fishing with Jerrette and Branford Bassmasters, and fishing with the family at the lime rock pits and fish frys and eating 'candy' pie at the hunting camp in Hamilton County. Lamar was always enjoying his family and friends and his dog Rowdy. There is no doubt Lamar loved God, Jesus, family and friends. He was a member of Burnham Christian Church and attended and fellowshipped at Devonia Baptist Church in Hamilton County, Florida.
Many people have unique fond memories of Lamar Linton's life: him chasing the man through the swamp with a knife, him packing into a telephone booth with 7 other teenagers, and the everlasting rival between Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs that sparked many practical jokes between him, Sherrif Charlie Rhoden, and Lieutenant Mallory Daniels. They were his good friends and laughed a lot for many years.
Robert Lamar Linton was a good friend, son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He was lovingly known as "grand-baby" to Reagan, Chloe and Trevor Linton because when they were little he would say to them "Hey grand baby…come here grand baby!" Lamar was a great man, like his father, Robert, with a little fire from his mother, Betty, which made him especially lovely! He is greatly missed already.
