Russell Lincoln Alderman, age 91, of Thomasville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Archbold Hospital in Thomasville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, FL. Interment followed at Burnham Christian Church Cemetery near Jennings, FL.
Mr. Russell Alderman was born in Jennings, Florida on September 23, 1922 to the late Gordon and Clyde Deas Alderman. Upon graduation from Jennings High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until the end of WWII. Russell married his high school sweetheart Hilda Cunningham and returned to Jennings to begin farming. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who deeply loved his family. Russell was a member of First Christian Church in Valdosta, Georgia. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and saltwater fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Alderman Hunt (Tom).
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Hilda Cunningham Alderman, Thomasville, GA.; one son, Russell "Rusty" Alderman (Colleen), West Grove, PA.; one daughter, Janet Alderman Webb (Jerry), Thomasville, GA.; one brother, Herbert Alderman (Sallie), Monks Corner, S.C.; one sister, Inez Sandefer (George), Palatka, FL.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church in Valdosta, Georgia or Burhnam Christian Church in Jennings, Florida.
