Sammy Ray Tanner, Sr., age 59, of Jasper, FL. passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Shands Jacksonville, FL. following an extended illness. Sammy was born on February 11, 1954 in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Lester Hillard Tanner and Jeanette Gill Tanner. He was a longtime resident of Jasper, FL. and worked most of his life as a meat cutter with his last employment at Winn Dixie in Live Oak, Florida. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Glenda Faye Tanner Boyd and a brother, Trenton Tanner.

Survivors include one son, Sammy Tanner Jr. "Doodle" and his wife Susie of Jasper, FL.; two daughters, Tabitha Smith and her husband Tony of White Springs, FL. and Brandy Tanner of Jasper; four brothers, Hillard Tanner, Billy Tanner (Linda), E.D. Tanner (Mary) all of Jasper and Roger Tanner (Melissa), Lake City, FL.; four sisters, Maria Batz (Ken), Lake Placid, FL., Sandra Streat (Jimmy), Glen St. Mary, FL., Frances Thornton, Lake City, FL. and Betty Jo Hodges (Timmy), Glen St. Mary, FL.; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 7, 2013 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, FL. with Evergreen Cemetery being his final resting place.
