IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel Morris
Swilley
February 12, 1953 – February 12, 2023
Samuel Morris Swilley, of Echols County, Georgia passed away on February 12, 2023 at his home on his 70 th birthday.
While given the name of Samuel Morris at birth, he much preferred and is fondly remembered as Morris. He was born in Lowndes County, Georgia on February 12, 1953 to the late Roscoe and Muriel Fowler Swilley. He and his late brother James grew up in a house full of sisters that were either always on their side or definitely not on their side, depending on what happened to be going on at the time. Morris worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad for almost forty years. When he was not on the job, he enjoyed fishing and as he liked to say "piddling" with old lawn mowers and weed eaters or the likes thereof. If you knew him well and you were looking for him, you knew to look near the closest store with scratch off lottery tickets because if truth be told, that was his favorite past-time.
Survivors include his two daughters, Wendy Reid and her fiancé Mike Wetherington of Jasper, FL. and April Sanders and her husband Cricket of Waycross, GA.; his four sisters, Evelyn Williams of Ray City, Ga., Wanda Mathis (Thomas), Diann Reid (Don), Vicky Carter (Leroy), all of Echols County, GA. and sister-in-law, Gwen Swilley, also of Echols County, GA.; five grandchildren, Carter Reid (Ragan), Bailey Reid, Kobe Pollock, Kadance Pollock and Cailie Sanders; one great grandchild, Keaton Reid. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Debbie Sims and her family.
Per his wishes Morris will be cremated and interred at Wright's Chapel at a later date.
Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, FL. was in charge of immediate arrangements.
