S.M. Morgan, age 90, of Jacksonville, FL. passed away at his home Thursday, February 26, 2015, surrounded by his family. Mr. Morgan was born in Jasper, FL. on December 7, 1924 to the late Nagel and Annie Herring Morgan. At birth he was given the initials S.M. which seemed to fit him well, but he later joked that it stood for "Smart Man". He grew up on the farm in the west end of Hamilton County. There he learned what hard work was all about and decided early on that farming would not be his career path. He purchased a home in Jacksonville in 1954 and found employment with A&P (Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company). In 1967 SM moved his family to Pompano Beach to take a job with W. R. Grace Company. He retired from Grace some 28 years later. He had not given up the home that he loved so much in Jacksonville and in 1992 he returned to live out the rest of his days in that home.
S.M. was predeceased by his loving wife, Ada Novell Morgan who passed away in Feb. of 2009.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Ronald Morgan and Kirby Morgan
and a sister, Doris Skeen.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen Morgan of Jasper, Fl. and Van Morgan and his wife Nessie of Green Cove Springs, Fl.; two daughters, Teresa Dietz and her husband John and Annie D. Housh and her husband Welles, all of Jacksonville, FL.; one brother, Montie Joe Morgan and one sister, Juanita M. Hice and her husband Steven, all of Lake City, FL.; four sisters-in-law, Myrtie Morgan, Dorothy Morgan, Cloriene Hingson and Loriene Baker; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.


An intimate family service were held for Mr. Morgan Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Corinth
Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
