Obituary

Stanley "Lamar" Royals, a pillar of strength and service, departed this world to be with his Heavenly Father on March 20, 2024, surrounded by his adoring family. Born on April 14, 1937, in Jasper, FL, Lamar was the beloved son of James and Jane Royals. Throughout his life, he remained a steadfast resident of Jasper, FL, deeply devoted to his community, country, and faith.

Lamar's journey was defined by his unwavering commitment to service. He dedicated 20 years of his life to the United States Army, where he valiantly served during the Vietnam War. His exceptional bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous awards, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star.

Beyond his military service, Lamar continued to exemplify the spirit of service in civilian life. A prominent figure in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), he served both as a leader and a dedicated member, offering unwavering support to his fellow veterans. His advocacy extended beyond the confines of the VFW, as he remained a steadfast supporter of his community and a beacon of strength and compassion to all he encountered. Lamar also worked for nearly seven years for the Department of Corrections at Hamilton Correctional Institution as the Warehouse Supervisor.

Lamar's faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he found peace and purpose in the promises of God.  He, along with his devoted wife and best friend, Hazel, was a member of Divonia Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. However, his impact reached well beyond, as his fellowship extended to encompass the entire community and surrounding areas.

Lamar would say he was not a hero, but all who knew him would respectfully disagree. He was a living example of how one should serve their own family, community, country and God. His actions and character spoke volumes, leaving an everlasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lamar leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and service. He is survived by his devoted wife, Hazel Royals; stepsons, Wesley Driggers (Shannon) of Port Orange, FL, and Clay Driggers (Stephanie) of Jasper, FL; cherished grandchildren Bethany Bowen (Jared), Zachary Driggers, Joseph Driggers, Caleb Driggers, and Adam Driggers; as well as close nephews, Tommy Royals of Welborn, and Jay and Jeff Royals, both of Dover, TN, along with numerous other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lamar is preceded in death by his three brothers: J.W. Royals, Tommy Royals, and Clarence "Dink" Royals and two sisters, Mavis Daniels and Francis Deese.

A funeral service honoring the life of Lamar and the love he left behind in the hearts of those who knew and loved him will be held Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Jasper, FL at 11 a.m. with a time of visitation being held just before the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8095, P.O. Box 1523, Jasper, FL 32053, in Lamar's honor, continuing his legacy of support for his fellow servicemen and women.
