Thomas Dale Goolsby, age 74, of Jasper, FL. passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dale was a native of Jasper, born July 30, 1943 to the late H.C. and Marie Wetherington Goolsby.
He grew up in Hamilton County loving to fish and hunt like most young men do but when it came time to be a man he stepped up and became a decorated sharpshooter in the the United States Army. Upon his return from service, truck driving became his lifelong career, first with Evans Products then Badcock's, followed by careers with the City of Jasper and finally retiring from the Hamilton County Road Department.
Dale was not only a man of character, he was a "character". He loved to laugh and joke with his friends and family. He started most days with his morning trip to the S & S at SR 6 and 75 to have coffee and discuss most any subject that might come up with the usual morning coffee crew. He loved his family and was always wanting to do things that were pleasing to them. One of his last simple pleasures in life was driving around in his yellow mustang. Dale was a member of the Live Oak Elk's Lodge and was a faithful member of the Advent Christian Church in Jasper as long as his health permitted. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by a brother, Van Goolsby and a sister, Sonya Fulmer.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Doreen Anderson Goolsby, Jasper; children, Renee Goolsby, Kathy Goolsby and Kim Dees (Randy), all of Branford, Victoria Bowles (Shane), Panama City, FL. and Thure Olson, Live Oak, FL.; one brother, David Goolsby (Marie), Jasper, FL.; two sisters, Dottie Lombardi, Jasper, FL. and Vicki Fennell (Rusty), Jennings, FL.; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 15, 2018 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL. with Bro. Rusty Fennell officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL.
