Thomas E. Powell, Jr., age 54, of Echols County, Georgia passed away at his home on Saturday, May 27, 2017 following an illness of some time.

Memorial services were held  on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Statenville Church of God.

Thomas was born in Homerville, Georgia on November 26, 1962 to Thomas E. and Aline Joyce Powell. He lived most of his life in Echols County and soon after graduating high school joined the armed services. Thomas served his country honorably and was a twenty year retiree of the United States Army. It was fitting that the Lord should pick Memorial Day Weekend to take such a fine soldier home. Thomas was always a worker and followed his long career with the Army with more hard work as a millwright and later as Manager of CC Dickson Wholesale Air Conditioning Distributors. He was dedicated to his family, an honest man whose word could be counted on and certainly one with a great sense of humor. He was a man that believed in the Lord and was a member of Statenville Church of God. Thomas was preceded in death by his father Thomas Powell.

Survivors include his wife of 11 years, ShaDawn Anderson Powell; his daughter, Debra Lee Powell, North Port, FL.; his beloved mother, Ms. Aline Powell, Statenville, GA.; one brother, Roger Powell, Statenville, GA.; two sisters, Joy Smith (Wayne), Valdosta, GA. and Yvonne Douberley (Dwight), Lake City, FL.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, LaShaunda and Pete McGhee; nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews that thought Uncle Thomas hung the moon.
