Obituary

Virginia Liles Davis MacFarlane, age 93, of Jasper, FL. passed away December 21, 2013 at her home following a brief illness.

Graveside services were held December 23, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper with Pastor Roger Hutto officiating.

Ms. MacFarlane was born on November 22, 1920 in Brantley County, Georgia to the late Alex and Ola Woodard Liles. She was a graduate of Ware County Georgia High School "Class of 1938" where she was captain of the girls Georgia State Basketball Championship team. Virginia was a national honor graduate of Valdosta State College with a Degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Hamilton County, The Panama Canal Zone and in Oakland California. During her career she coached girls basketball and invested in the lives of many young children.

This remarkable and gracious lady will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. Her family and friends will remember her for her love, compassion, generosity and kindness for others. She will be remembered by her family for her steadfast love and dedication, her outgoing personality, zest for life and positive attitude. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church until her health prohibited her attendance.

Ms. Macfarlane was predeceased by her husbands, John William Davis and Lt. Col. John F. MacFarlane, her daughter, Jonnie Kay Davis Wagoner, great granddaughter, Katelyn Mitchell, her parents, a sister Larkin L. Schierkolk and a brother Lawrence Liles.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret D. Lewis and her husband Gerry of Jasper, FL.; her son, John William Davis, Jr. and his wife Ann of Leesburg, FL.; son-in-law, John R. Wagoner of Jasper, FL.; two special nieces, Georgiana S. Pierce and Luola S. Savelle of Valdosta, GA.; eight grandchildren, Gina L. Chambers (L J), Gerald Lewis, Gerrett Lewis, Helen Wagoner, Patti W. Mitchell, Rog Wagoner, John William Davis, III (Shannon) and Jason Davis (Shawnda); twelve great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
