Virginia Anderson Hughes October 12, 1941 – December 4, 2025

Virginia Anderson Hughes, 84, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Clewiston Nursing & Rehab in Clewiston, Florida. Born in Genoa, Florida, and raised in White Springs, she was the daughter of Rufus Anderson and Elizabeth Cribbs Anderson.

Virginia shared nearly 60 years of marriage with her devoted husband, James Butler Hughes Jr. Their life together was filled with love, partnership, and faith. They built their home and raised their family in Clewiston, Florida, where she had lived since 1968.

A woman of many talents and a generous heart, Virginia loved all animals and found joy in tennis, softball, gardening, and sewing. She served her community proudly as one of the “Pink Ladies” at the local hospital, offering comfort and kindness to countless patients and families. For more than ten years, she was a dedicated member of the Evangel Assembly of God, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

Virginia spent her career as a teacher’s aide, touching the lives of many children with her patience, warmth, and steady guidance. Her gentle spirit and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Hughes of Clewiston, Florida, and Gloria Hughes Ramsey (Spencer) of Bridge City, Texas; grandchildren, Devan Ramsey of Houston, Texas, and Erin Ramsey of Austin, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and loving extended family members.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Anderson and Elizabeth Cribbs Anderson; her loving husband, James Butler Hughes Jr.; and her sister, Lonnie Anderson Brown.

Funeral Services: Visitation will be held on December 12, 2025, at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, Florida, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
