Wilbur George Smith Sr.

Listen to Obituary

Wilbur was a lifelong resident of Jasper in Hamilton County, Florida. Born on Sept 3 of 1950 he grew up in what he called "the best years to live". He often told stories of growing up in the greatest community, when times were more simple and the town and people had so much to offer. He would tell fun stories of when he was a teen and riding to town to shoot some pool (his favorite hobby), hang out with the boys or catch a movie at the theater in town and maybe end the night with a little speed chase back to the farm.

Wilbur was known by many as a farmer, truck driver, mechanic and all around fixer. He was who you called when you needed help or some random item he probably had just laying around. But his greatest title will always be Husband, Dad, Brother and Friend. And boy did he love everyone who fell into each of those categories in life.

He loved his family. He would often take you on a "quick trip" to town which everyone knew turned in 2 hours at least once you heard someone shout, "Hey Peabody or Hey Pete!"

Peabody left his home to visit the Lord on Sept 4, 2026. He has 76 wonderful years of stories to share up there. Stories of working in the tobacco field with the best crew he ever knew, racing drag cars with his best friends, riding his motorcycle in the riverbed, teaching his family how to grow the best sweet corn around and spending time with those he loved so much. Anyone who knew or heard those stories knew he "was the best that ever did it and got away with it".

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Vicki Tolliver Smith, his 3 children, Natalie (Josh) Hudson, Will (Katie) Smith and Rebecca Smith. 5 beautiful grandchildren, Jacob, Anna (Seth), Skyler, Ansley Kate and Ivy and 1 great grandchild, Oliver. He is also survived by his loving sister, Kathy Daughtery, cousins, Jerry B Smith and family, and Margaret Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Smith and his mother Winnifred Craun Smith. His brother David Smith, sister Vivian Smith and brother John Christie.

There will be no formal services, but family will hold a celebration of life at a later time.
