Obituary

Willene Willis Drury, age 89, of Jasper, FL (living the last three years with her daughter and son in law in Smithfield, North Carolina) passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 in Smithfield, NC following an illness of sometime. She was born on July 1, 1935, in Hamilton County, FL. She was the daughter of the late Willie M. Willis and Ella Alene Smith Willis. The Hamilton county native owned and operated Stephanie's Gifts and Clothing for 37 years. Mrs. Drury had a keen eye for fashion and dressed many ladies in the North Florida and South Georgia areas from her shop. She had the gift of making those around her feel extra special. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. With her southern grace and hospitality, she hosted and co-hosted dinner parties, showers, and teas in her home for many of the young brides in the community and directed many of their weddings. She enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club. She was a faithful longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Jasper where she served on numerous committees and boards. Mrs. Drury loved Hamilton County, especially Jasper. After moving to North Carolina, she and her daughter would travel to Jasper every other month as long as her health permitted. She loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Jasper Woman's club for over 50 years, during those early years she was elected North Florida Woman's Club District Director for seven counties. At the time, she was the youngest ever elected for that position.  She served on the North Florida Community College Board of Trustees for 6 years. She served on the Occidental Chemical/Nutrien Co. Board for numerous years and she also served on the committee for the Hamilton County Library Building Project. Mrs. Drury was predeceased by her husband of 48 years William Arvel Drury, Sr. and her son William "Bill" Arvel Drury, Jr., her sister Annah Lou Dukes, her two brothers Billy Willis and Charles WIllis and an infant great- great granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Carter (Rodney) of Smithfiled, NC; five grandchildren, Holly Galloway, William Arvel Drury, III, Whitney Migliarese (Cameron), Elizabeth Darden (Kevin), and Caroline Carter; six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Jasper First United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow after the service at Evergreen Cemetery.
