Obituary

William O. Jackson, age 79, of Jasper, FL. passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL. following a brief illness.

William was a native of Valdosta, Georgia born on December 13, 1939 to the late Otis and Evelyn Lightsey Jackson. He attended Valdosta High School, Valdosta State College and finished his education out at the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. William pursued what was and what has become a real family tradition in the field of pharmacy excellence. His father, brother, nephews and great niece all finding their place in the world of service to others. To know William or "Doc" as some referred to him, was to know a man dedicated to helping his neighbor. He easily fell into the category of the "Old Fashioned Pharmacist", one who didn't work 9-5 but one that would go out in the middle of the night to open the store and mix a medication for a sick child, an expecting mother or an aging adult, as he knew he might hold the key between the two worlds of pain and/or manageable relief.
Shortly after graduation, William returned to his beloved Valdosta and to Barnes Drugstore where he worked and perfected his trade. In 1976 William moved to Jasper, FL. and was able to purchase the former Wise's Drugstore and for the next 24 years William owned and operated Jackson's Drugstore complete with soda fountain until he closed shop in 2001.
William will always be remembered as a kind hearted and loving husband, father, "Poppa" and friend. He was one of the most dedicated Georgia Bulldog fans that ever breathed. When he was not watching a Georgia game on television, he was on the golf course perfecting his game. William never had trouble getting a golf date because his love of the game was infectious or on some occasions vicious according to how he was hitting the ball. He enjoyed a prank every now and again which was just another reason everyone loved him. On the side William enjoyed a little fishing, hunting and traveling but most of all, spending time with his family. William was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Jackson.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Marty Standefer Jackson of Jasper; his son, William Otis Jackson, Jr. "Bill" of Ormond Beach, FL., three daughters, Suzanne Jackson of Valdosta, GA., Hazen Chandler of Jacksonville, FL. and Meghan Lloyd of Jasper, FL.; two granddaughters, Nicolette Jackson and Marcella Horton and one grandson, Jackson Horton; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his former wife and the mother of his children, Nina Hackworth and his longtime dedicated employee and friend, Jennie Lou Hughes. In naming those that will miss him, we cannot forget William's fur buddy, Blanca.

Per William's wishes he was cremated.
