This obituary has been placed on our website as a courtesy to the McCarthy Family. The McCarthy's lived in Hamilton County for several years when the children were high school age and were involved in a number of activities. We grew to love them and care about them and then learned how to miss them.

William Gerard McCarthy, age 65, of Moultrie, GA, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, with his family and loved ones by his side.

Born March 3, 1953, just outside of Boston, he was the son of the late Ellen McGranachan McCarthy.
Billy worked tirelessly as a correctional officer for the Florida Department of Corrections for over 20 years. He was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins. He enjoyed spending time at the ballfield, watching NASCAR, going to the beach and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Billy Mac will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy; three children, Robert, Patrick, and Kerri along with two step-children, Carol and Chad. Billy is survived by his brothers Paul, Jack, and James and his sisters, Donna and Maryellen. Papa Mac is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Austin, Brittany, Hannah, Alex, Miller, Andre, Keenan, Robbie, Jackson, Hadley and Colton.

A Memorial Gathering for William McCarthy was held Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Midway Baptist Church, 534 Midway Church Rd in Meigs, Georgia. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment was be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Midway Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Meigs.
