Our Story

Harry T. Reid, born on June 3, 1913, was a native and lifelong resident of Hamilton County. After losing his father at a young age, he immediately began working to provide for his family. He received his Funeral Directors License at the age of 23, but then chose to enter the United States Army during World War II. In 1946, after returning home from the war, Mr. Reid opened his own funeral home in Jasper, FL. In addition to funeral home operations, he was also responsible for operating the county’s ambulance service as was common in rural areas during that time. Mr. Reid operated his funeral home as he did his life, by “serving God and serving the people.” He always ensured that funerals ran on time and he treated every family with dignity and respect. His dedication to service shaped the legacy of Reid Funeral Home not just as a business, but as a ministry of service to others. Since its founding, Harry T. Reid Funeral Home has become one of the most respected funeral homes in North Florida and South Georgia. After Mr. Reid’s passing in 2002 his son, J. Harrell Reid, took over the family business maintaining the same care and commitment to service that was instilled in him by his father. After serving the community for over twenty years, Harrell is passing the torch to the next generation of the family.
We take enormous pride in being family-owned and operated and are dedicated to serving our community with the same care and commitment to service that began with Harry T. Reid over eighty years ago.
